Sexuality and Vaginal Dryness

Is it possible to reverse vaginal atrophy, or will I need to use Vagifem forever?

It is possible to reverse vaginal atrophy. Typically, when a woman starts on Vagifem she takes it daily for two weeks. After that, it is usually recommended that women only use the tablets two days a week. However, it can take up to 12 weeks to feel the full benefit.

If you have been on Vagifem for more than 12 weeks, you can begin tapering the dose even further. You could try using it just one day a week, and then maybe every other week. Many women find that once the atrophy has improved they do not need more estrogen, especially if they are having sex regularly. That's because sexual exercise—either alone or with a partner—increases natural lubrication.
